BIOLOGICAL CLOCK

A MOTHER SOMEDAY…JUST NOT TODAY. Fertility is a genetically predetermined situation and starts to decrease in your 20s and the decline accelerates during your 30s. The most important thing for eggs is time. Ovarian aging occurs before women notice any changes to their menstrual cycles. What time is it on your biological clock right now and how much battery life do you have left? Gain freedom to extend the battery life of your biological clock and turn it back, to some extent.

What's Your AMH?

Information is empowering. Unlike some hormones, the AMH blood hormone doesn’t fluctuate from month to month and can be taken on any day of a woman’s cycle. It’s a useful tool to educate a woman on their personal fertility status.  It could change your life, if you know what it is. AMH is produced by granulosa cells which surround each egg and blood levels are thought to reflect the size of the remaining egg supply, “ovarian reserve”. No one can predict exactly when your eggs will run out and there is no exact in medicine. But when you are deliberate in delaying becoming a mom, this test can be resourceful for women seeking to optimize fertility and put specifics together for what matters most now and later.

Fertility Questions

To Consider

WHAT IS FERTILITY TESTING?

THE AMH TEST gives valuable information about the number of eggs remaining. Additional tests, as needed would include FSH, estradiol, LH, antral follical count (AFC), hysterosalpingogram, saline hysterosonogram, and partner analysis. Knowing your AMH can be a wake-up call to understand your reproductive health and consider plans for the future.

WHAT FACTORS AFFECT FERTILITY?

There is a natural deterioration of ovarian function. Other factors such as endometriosis, fibroid uterus, cancer, adhesions, tubal blockage, pelvic surgeries, and other medical conditions during life may affect fertility.

HOW MANY EGGS LEFT?

THE AMH blood levels are thought to reflect the size of the remaining egg supply or “ovarian reserve”. This declines and not every woman is born with the same number of eggs or loses them at the same rate.

THINKING ABOUT IUI OR IVF?

Assisted fertilization if effective for infertility of all causes except uterine anomaly. It is used for couples who have failed to conceive naturally after at least one year of trying or less depending upon age of the woman. It is a stressful course, but manageable.

HOW TO IMPROVE EGG QUALITY?

It takes 3 months for your eggs to mature and be selected for ovulation. Have you taken the essential measures in the last 3 months to prepare your body for conceiving? What you do during those 3 months can make all the difference.

WHO SHOULD FREEZE EGGS?

Not every woman has to freeze her eggs. You can avoid the “freeze your egg” frenzy. If you are putting off having a family, it is vital to know and understand your status and if you should take control of your fertility now with egg cryopreservation for later use.

While it can happen naturally, many women and celebrities who are having babies over 40 are using assisted fertilization techniques and over 7 million women to date have in the USA. Not acknowledging this to some degree, can portray a false sense of security that this is possible for all women to conceive naturally in that age group.

While there isn't a timeline on how long a woman may be single waiting for real love, there is a timeline on her fertility. This varies and some women in their late 30s may have good numbers, while some in their late 20s may have poor numbers. Knowing helps you know.

With discouraging news, I recommend at least 2 opinions. My husband and I saw 3 reproductive specialists and each had their own view, own mannerisms, and own recommendations. We liked things about each of them, but were surprised at how different they were. So, don't stop at one.

IUI AND IVF:
First time or failed?

7 million women have impaired ability to get pregnant or carry a baby to term. Fertility treatment is a major decision that involves financial and emotional dedication. Yet, thankfully it exists to help couples increase the chances of conception. There are both advantages and disadvantages to consider during the nerve-racking process. Along with the increased opportunities for conception, come along the daunting decisions of how many attempts, what can be done to improve the chances, what questions to ask specialists, and what the next steps should be. Sometimes it can be frustrating to go through the process alone with just outdated internet blogs.

DONOR EGGS, SURROGACY, AND ADOPTION:
Your next step?

1 in 6 couples will struggle with infertility. There are ways you can attempt to improve your egg quality during the process or other means such as surgery, if needed. But there can come the tough question of, “What next?” What can you do to decrease the stressors associated with the process and how can you cope with the transition to get assistance when your own means have been exhausted? Be not discouraged as you can still have motherhood and not feel helpless or hopeless in your decision.
